A Timeless Asset Class

Vacation Architecture in Nonseasonal Places.

At first glance, Vacation Architecture and Value Creation seem like two different worlds. However, if you think about it more carefully, they are actually two sides of the same coin.

In the world of Private Equity and high-level exits, assets are everything. Vacation Architecture is one of the purest forms of Value Creation in the physical world.

Buildings that come alive make us feel more alive. This is Asset Architecture.

Vacation Architecture is a series of books for anyone who wants to build a space. Not just any space, but a very special space. A space in which you can rest, socialize and create. A space where you can truly be present, where time flows differently. These are timeless spaces, spaces that, for us, come alive, while making us truly feel alive. Vacation Architecture, while it is part of an asset class (real estate) it manages to transcend commodification specifically because it it experiential and not formalistic.

I made this book as tribute to my newsletter subscribers, allowing them to provide feedback while I wrote it, in order for it to provide true value. The marketing was done like a software startup, building a community before the launch. It sold out in 3 months.

1. Afraid of dying? Live life to its fullest.

Work the hours. Earn the money. Plan the trip. Get there. Make the most out of your free time. Come back home. Remember the essence of what you’ve been exposed to. Integrate some of these things into your day to day life. We’re only able to have a finite amount of daily habits. Replace the negative ones with positive ones.

2. Sad that summer’s over? Bring vacations into your own home.

Instead of simply placing your furniture to use up less space, try and plan out your home according to your own lifestyle. Be honest with yourself: how much TV do you watch? How much time do you actually spend on the statement armchair you placed next to the couch instead of in a more suitable reading nook? Do you even have a place inside your home where you can listen to music?

3. Feeling lonely? Have some friends over.

Start hosting social gatherings. Start cooking and sharing food at home with your friends. Do it when you’re tired. Don’t worry about the dishes. Most of the examples mentioned in this volume of Vacation Architecture integrate large social spaces, either in the form of indoor living rooms or dining rooms, or outdoor terraces, closely connected to the kitchen. It’s really not about polished furniture, it’s about the casual experience this setting can host.

4. Do you hate vacations? Just go off season.

Popular vacation spots can be even more beautiful off season, especially in those mild climate regions. If you can take some days off during the month of January, you will be greatly surprised on what positive effect that has. Your mind becomes restful. Your budget doesn’t take a big hit. All of the places studied in this book can be easily visited in off season months such as January or February. If anything, during those cooler months, those places that are usually crowded and overheated become empty. No people, no heatwave. This is a great time to walk around the streets more, to be more mindful about your surrounding environment. This book will help you with that.
